Queer Fashion Show at the LGBTQ Research Symposium

Call for Submissions

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO May 27th!

Given the conference theme this year of “Pleasure is Power,” we will conclude the two-day symposium with a research presentation and virtual fashion show highlighting “The Pleasure and Power in Clothing for Queer Communities.” Dr. Elizabeth Holman (she/her) from Bowling Green State University will open the show with a brief introduction to the topic and research presentation before clearing the virtual runway for the models (you!) and our emcee, Athena Horton (they/them).

Do you have a favorite outfit or article of clothing that makes you feel powerful? What do you like to wear to showcase your pride? How does this outfit connect to pleasure and/or power in your identities?

Be a part of this virtual fashion show by showing off your fashion choices and sharing what it does for you and/or how it makes you feel. Options for submissions include, but are not limited to:

  • A short video clip (30 seconds or less, please!) of you modeling your outfit or article of clothing
  • Photos of you in your favorite outfit(s)
  • Another image the represents your ideas about queering fashion (does not have to include you)
  • A brief description of a time you felt joy in connection to your clothing
  • Any other creative endeavor!

You do NOT need to be registered for the symposium to submit OR attend the fashion show. All individuals who submit for the virtual fashion show will be provided with a direct zoom link to participate and attend. Submissions must be received by Friday, May 27th. We will also have a live fashion show during the virtual event so feel free to plan for that instead (or in addition to)!
