About the Master of Social Work at KU
KU's MSW program equips graduates with the knowledge to provide counseling and direct services to individuals, families and groups.
- Advanced Standing MSW (for students with a BSW degree) or Traditional MSW (for students with another bachelor's degree)
- Program locations: Lawrence, Overland Park (Edwards Campus), Salina or online
- Concentrations: Clinical practice or macro practice
- Complete practicum placement to gain real-world experience
MSW Admissions and Application
The MSW admissions application for summer and fall 2026 opens on Oct. 1, 2025.
Advanced Standing MSW Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited social work program
- GPA of 3.0 or above is preferred
- All Advanced Standing applicants admitted to the program will begin courses in the summer term.
Traditional MSW Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, reflecting the successful completion of liberal arts courses
- GPA of 3.0 or above is preferred
- Traditional MSW applicants admitted to the Lawrence, Edwards or online campus map begin courses in summer or fall.
