Amplified: A Poetic Inquiry of Voices in Child Welfare

Microphone

Description

Few studies have examined outcomes of youth in foster care by centering their voices and the voices of the professionals working with them day-to-day. The primary research question for this poster presentation is: How can child welfare and related professionals support young people in foster care toward positive experiences and outcomes?

The authors share findings from creative arts focus groups conducted with youth with foster care experience, parents, child welfare professionals, and researchers. During the focus groups, participants co-constructed relational poems and other art projects with the expressed purpose of developing practice and policy recommendations to improve the experiences of youth impacted by the child welfare system.

Awarded Best Poster of the ResilienceCon 2021 conference.
