Biography

Rebecca Beeler is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). She has a bachelor's degree in psychology from the Pittsburg State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas.

Beeler currently works as director of social services at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri. She manages the coordination of aftercare for hospitalized patients at Freeman West, East, Neosho, and Fort Scott locations and also ensures the quality of care and timely disposition planning.

Beeler previously worked in substance abuse assessment and referrals, and as a grant writer for small nonprofits.

Research

Practice and Research Focus Areas

Beeler's focus of study in the DSW program is health insurance literacy of Medicare beneficiaries. Understanding insurance is critical for those eligible for Medicare to choose a plan that best fits their health care needs and to not be unfairly influenced by insurance brokers.

Capstone project title: Building a Community Coalition to Increase the Health Insurance Literacy of Medicare Beneficiaries

Capstone project description: This capstone project's focus is to secure strong stakeholder engagement and create a viable community coalition in Southwest Missouri to coordinate educational interventions related to Medicare education.
