Next Steps for Admitted BSW Students

Congratulations on being admitted to the Bachelor of Social Work program at KU! Next, you have important steps to take to confirm your spot at KU, prepare for enrollment and get ready to start the BSW program.

What's next: First-time freshmen

  • Pay your enrollment deposit

If you are an incoming first-year student, you can pay your enrollment deposit starting in mid-September once you've created your KU Online ID. This deposit confirms your place in the next KU class, covers the costs of Orientation and first-year programming, and pays for your KU Card.

  • Set up your KU Online ID

Before you pay your enrollment deposit, you’ll need to set up your personal KU account, which requires an online ID and password. Find the 7-digit student ID number to create your online ID in the applicant status portal.

  • File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA is available Oct. 1 at studentaid.gov. You must file the FAFSA to be considered for federal loans, grants, work-study, and some state and university aid. To qualify for financial aid with limited funds, file your FAFSA as soon as possible. The priority date is Feb. 1 for fall admits. KU’s school code is 001948.

  • Register for freshman Orientation

First-time freshmen can register for the required KU Orientation after submitting the enrollment deposit. Freshman Orientation is your chance to connect with new Jayhawks and campus resources, learn more about your first year, and enroll in classes.

What's next: Transfer students (Lawrence campus and KU Edwards Campus)

  • Expect a call from a KU Navigator

After you're admitted as a transfer student, expect a phone call from a KU Academic Success Navigator — a dedicated staff member who will help you set up your KU account and associated software. You will also schedule an appointment with your academic advisor, who will discuss your academic goals and transfer credits.

  • Register for transfer Orientation

Incoming transfer students attend transfer Orientation before the semester starts. For transfer students, KU offers sessions online or in-person to prepare you for classes.
