The first group of KU MSW students to graduate from a new partnership program with Kansas State University Salina formed a close-knit cohort.

“We spend time together, we lean on each other, we support each other. … You can’t ask for better than that,” said Jamie Womochil, a 2024 graduate of the Salina MSW program.

Through the Master of Social Work partnership with Kansas State University Salina, students attend classes at the K-State Salina campus. Graduates of the program earn their MSW degree from KU.

Allie Ament, a 2024 MSW graduate, said her classmates brought their own work experiences to the program. Ament earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Kansas State University in Manhattan in 2023.

“I’ve gotten to learn from my classmates and my professors, and build relationships,” Ament said.

About the KU MSW partnership with K-State Salina

The first group of students in the Advanced Standing MSW – a one-year plan for students who already have their Bachelor of Social Work – started classes in summer 2023, with eight students graduating in May 2024. A Traditional MSW – a two-year plan for students who have a non-social work bachelor’s degree – will welcome its first students this fall.

Students enrolled in the first, generalist year of the Traditional MSW plan take classes through the Kansas State University Salina Social Work Program. Students in the Advanced Standing MSW and the second, specialization year of the Traditional MSW take classes taught by KU School of Social Welfare on the K-State Salina campus.
