Staff and Faculty Awards

To be considered for the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence by an Adjunct Instructor, nominees need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Taught at least two semesters for the KUSSW, including at least one course taught this academic year.
  2. Demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas:
    • Meritorious contributions above and beyond typical adjunct duties
    • Demonstration of commitment to continuous improvement in instruction methods, materials, etc.
    • Openness to working with the KUSSW's faculty and staff in constructing and delivering course content
    • Improvement of course materials and teaching in response to student feedback
    • C&I scores
Nomination Process

Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by others. Nomination letters must be submitted electronically as a single PDF to jaredlee@ku.edu and must include a resume or CV and a one to two-page letter that addresses:

  • Nominee’s name, job title to designate candidate as eligible, and a description of their work
  • Why or how their work contributes significantly to research and scholarship that advances the school’s mission, vision, and guiding principles and values
  • Description of the candidate’s research and scholarship results in advancements for the School, University, profession, and/or service sector

All nominations will be evaluated by the School of Social Welfare Awards Committee.

The Harry and Suzanne Statland Research Staff Award is intended to recognize the

contributions of outstanding research staff in unclassified professional staff positions

to the vision, mission, and guiding principles and values of the School of Social Welfare.

Eligibility 

Eligible candidates include:

  • Individuals with at least a half-time equivalent appointment (at least 50% FTE) in the School of Social Welfare and who have been in their current position for at least a year.

                     &

  • Individuals who hold any of the unclassified professional staff titles in the research job family.

    • Commonly used positions in the School of Social Welfare include, but are not limited to, Research Project Specialist, Research Project Coordinator, Research Project Manager, Research Project Director, Assistant Researcher, Assistant Researcher Senior, Associate Researcher, Associate Researcher Senior, Post Doctoral Researcher

The individual’s contribution should be characterized as being significantly aligned with the School of Social Welfare’s mission, vision, and guiding principles and values, and demonstrates outstanding advancements for the School, University, profession, and/or service sector via research and scholarship.

Selection Process

All nominations will be evaluated by the School of Social Welfare Awards Committee. Should a member of the committee be one of the nominated individuals or the immediate supervisor of a nominated individual, they will be recused from selection and replaced on the selection committee by the committee’s alternate member or the Associate Dean of Research.
