Cornerstones of Care is a nonprofit dedicated to building safe and healthy communities that is based in Kansas City. It focuses on youth and family support, foster care, adoption, education and trainings.
After welcome and orientation by Cornerstones’ staff, KUSSW community members will volunteer in the orchard, weeding, harvesting, and packing produce as directed by orchard leaders.
“Together, we’ll learn about how these urban orchards create space for wellness, relationship, and growth,” Lewis said. “We’ll perform needed maintenance tasks before sharing lunch with sustainable food system leaders. Through these community-engaged explorations, students will see the roles natural spaces play in social services and community health, adding crucial insights to their academic knowledge and professional skills.”
