KU Social Welfare faculty, researchers to present at CSWE 2024 Annual Program Meeting
LAWRENCE – Faculty and researchers from the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare will share their work during the 2024 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Annual Program Meeting. The conference will be in Kansas City, Oct. 24-27.
KU School of Social Welfare attendees will share their research during interactive workshops, poster presentations, paper presentations and panel discussions. Topics include:
- Social work and Indigenous educators in Kansas
- Practicing racial justice at the organizational level, presented by faculty affiliates of the Toni Johnson Center for Racial and Social Justice
- “Untold Stories of Aging,” a community action project of the Sigler Family Aging Scholars Program
- Teaching students and educators policy dialogue skills
- Racial equity in the child welfare system
- Teaching and curriculum development in eco-social work
- Implementing telehealth with families involved in child welfare
On Thursday, Oct. 24, Associate Professor Ed Scanlon will lead a community action day with the Association for Community Organization and Social Action (ACOSA). The group will visit organizations in the Kansas City area and learn from KU School of Social Welfare graduates.
The theme of the 2024 CSWE Annual Program Meeting is, “It’s Time to Act: Indigenous Knowledge Sovereignty and Environmental Justice.” The program on social work education includes over 800 presentations and events.
The KU School of Social Welfare’s community-engaged research and service contributes millions of dollars in sponsored research funding to Kansas partners each year. The School houses six unit research centers, with focuses on health equity, LGBTQ+ research and advocacy, aging and disability, racial and social justice, and transforming the child welfare system.
