Statement from the KU School of Social Welfare about the election

Friday, November 11, 2016

We are all involved in conversations about the election result and what this all means. It will take a while before we will understand the implications of this election and its impacts upon social work services as well as vulnerable populations and marginalized persons. At this time, it is vital to remember the profession’s focus on social work values of fairness, equity, and justice as well as our ongoing responsibility to engage respectfully in thoughtful dialogue across differences.

We are committed to making sure that ALL students feel welcome, safe and supported in the KU School of Social Welfare.

We will move forward together. As we do so, we will work to make sense of this and provide support to each other. As resources become available, we will make sure we share them.  In the meantime, if you feel unsafe on our campus, you should contact campus security. The Provost’s Office and the School are working to establish a more complete list of resources.

The recent developments have not altered our commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion. We will all have to work even harder to honor our commitment to social well-being and human dignity.
